Why turn your back on 60% of web browsers?

by Gedaliah Blum on 09/19/11

Why are you in business?

Many businesses do not have a website and claim that they do not need or want one. One must ask the question; Why are they in business? Perhaps they are not interested in earning money. For those that are interested in earning money, then you should know that 60% of browsers use the internet to "look something/someone up". If you are not available to them, ie, you have no web pressence, what are the chances they will contact you? Zero chance...kind of like wishing to win the lottery yet never buying a ticket.

Misconceptions regarding websites:

A major misconception in developing a website is that the website should cover, in detail, all of the services rendered by the company. This is FALSE.  Often, those providing professional services, think that providing details relating to their industry is important. This is FALSE.

As a buisness owner, you are an expert and need to show your expertise and experience as well as show your personality. The idea behind a website is to create a bridge; a bridge from a prospects computer/phone to your office. The best way to create this bridge is to show the world that you are a good person, expert in your field and approachable. (the reason I write this blog).

So how can a website work for you?

As I wrote above, show your personality. If you are a tour guide, create a 30 second video of yourself speaking in an outdoor setting to be put onto your home page. Show specific location you know VERY well and are expert in. If an electrician, give tips on how to do "do-it-yourself" projects. This will show that you are there to help the customer and make it much easier to call and ask a question.

Internet users have A.D.D....

by Gedaliah Blum on 09/05/11

5....4....3....2....1....Stay or Go?

When you build a website, which way do you want your browsers to go? To stay or to go? If you say stay, then you have to understand why people leave.

They leave because the Internet has created an A.D.D. society. Meaning that attention spans are low because of the tremendous amount of information on the web.

One of the biggest design flaws in web building is the need to clutter the website with content. From a multi-paragraph description of the company, to helpful links, to descriptions of ALL services they provide... a website can get a bit messy in no time.

To answer the question to what is the correct way to design a site, let define what the role of a website is.

The roll of a website is to act as an aid or tool to your company. It does not replace your customer service dept, nor does it replace your marketing and sales team.

Therefore the goal of your website should be to entice your visitors to pick up the phone and call you.

Your personal connection with the prospect and your conversation about the prospect's individuals needs will help build confidence and trust leading to increased sales.
